Kochi
Fort Kochi (also called Fort Cochin) is a historic seaside neighborhood in Kochi, on the southwest coast of India.
Fort Kochi has been shaped by multiple European powers over centuries:
- The Portuguese Empire arrived in the 1500s, making it one of their first settlements in India.
- Later it was taken over by the Dutch Empire.
- Finally, the British Empire ruled until India’s independence.
This layered history is visible in the architecture, churches, and street names.
